Mrs. Karen Anea Kiil Spurgeon, age 65, of Sanford, N.C, died Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, as the result of an automobile accident. Mrs. Spurgeon was born on Feb. 27, 1949, in Brooklyn, New York to the late Harry Kiil and Anea Stimac Kiil. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one grandchild. She had retired as a registered nurse in the U.S. Army on December 31, 2004. She is survived by her husband, Dana Ogden Spurgeon of Sanford; a son, Dana Nicholas Spurgeon and wife Erin B. of Bowie, Maryland; a daughter, Tanya K. Huettel of Wilmington, N.C.; two brothers, Harry Kiil of Merced, California and Arnold Kiil of Trenton, Florida; a sister Eva Kiil Ovatt of Merced, California, and six grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Chapel, 16501 Annapolis Rd., Bowie, MD on Tuesday, December 16, 2014 at 11am. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to your local Catholic charities.
