Virginia (Virgie) Azarcon, 59, passed away on November 11, 2014 at her home in Bowie, MD. She went peacefully, surrounded by loving family and friends. Virgie was born on October 17, 1955 in Tubao, la Union, Philippines to the late Isabelo and Sofia Gonzales. She is the beloved wife of 34 years to Miguel (Mike) Azarcon; mother to Melanie and Jonas Santiago and Sharon and Kennieth Smith; sister to Cora and Rey Giron, Carlos, Clifford, Jun Jun, and Reynaldo; and loving grandmother to Isaac Santiago. Virgie attended Arellano University in Manila, where she received her Bachelor's of Science in Nursing. She moved from the Philippines to the United States in 1979 to work as an ICU nurse. Virgie has worked at Howard University Hospital, Washington Hospital Center, and Georgetown University Hospital, alongside her most dearest friends. She was a mentor to many, not just a coworker but a loving friend that was always supportive and willing to share her knowledge to anyone that came in contact with her. Virgie was a loving wife, always catering to Mike day and night. She loved him endlessly and took care of him even while she was sick. Her endless mornings of making sure he had breakfast, preparing his lunch, and assuring his medications were taken were just some of her selfless ways of living. Virgie is well known by her friends and family as caring, loving, selfless, well organized, supportive, devoted to her faith, and genuine. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, often putting her needs aside to care for theirs, singing in her church's choir, and cooking for her grandson Isaac. She was grateful for each and every moment. Virgie touched so many lives and will always be remembered. Family and friends are extremely blessed to have her make such an impact in their lives. She is an angel in heaven watching down upon us, smiling, and resting in peace.
