Robert Dean Bence "Bob" of Bowie MD, passed peacefully after a two year battle with cancer on Monday October 27, 2014 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. He was the son of the late Irvin and Antoinette Bence, born on February 25, 1941 in Beaverdale, PA. Bob met the love of his life, Sharon (Rees) Bence at Camp Allegheny in Stoystown PA and they were happily married for 49 years, marrying June 26, 1965. He was a devoted father to Robert Bradley Bence and daughter-in-law, Carrie and Melissa Lynn Miller and son-in-law, Bobby. He was affectionately known and loved by his five grandchildren, Bailey, Logan, Finn, Sahalie, and Lily as "Pa". Bob is also survived by his sister, Maria Burnosky, bother, Irvin Bence, sister, Leoda Wagoner and sister, Adelie Henley as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Upon graduating from Beaverdale-Wilmore High School, Bob joined the United States Navy and served for 20 years. During his Naval career he served on the USS Norris, USS Fiske, Fleet Training Center in Pittsburgh PA, USS Butte, Fleet Maintenance Pump Shop, and USS Coronado. After retiring from the Navy, Bob worked for Pepsi Cola bottlers as maintenance supervisor for 8 years. He also taught air conditioning and carpentry in Prince George's County Schools for 20 years. Bob's passion was spending time with his family and friends. Bob was an active member of Davidsonville United Methodist Church serving as a trustee, member of the ASP Mission team, Tongues of Fire BBQ Team, United Methodist Men, Usher, and many other areas where he was needed. He was an active Boy Scout Leader for his son, Brad and grandson, Bailey for 22 years. He was also a member of the Annapolis Woodworkers Guild. Bob loved to travel, read, play cards, and dress up for Christmas with his wife as Mr. and Mrs. Clause. Bob will be remembered by many for the beautiful wooden cross necklaces he made for others to share his Christian faith. The family will receive friends at Beall Funeral Home.6512 NW Crain Highway (Rt. 3 South) on Friday, October 31, 2014 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. Services will be held at Davi dsonville United Methodist Church, 819 W. Central Ave. Davidsonville, MD on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at 11 AM. Interment immediately following in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Davidsonville United Methodist Church.
