Ivo Andrew "Andy" Giancoli, a resident of Glenn Dale, Maryland, passed away of complications from Alzheimer's disease on October 21, 2014, at his home at the age of 79. A memorial celebration was held on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at the Beall Funeral Home, and a Mass of Christian Burial was held at the Ascension Catholic Church on October 27, 2014 Andy was born in Washington D.C. in July, 1935, where he lived until joining the United States Navy in 1953. Andy served in the Navy from 1953 to1957, and in the Naval Reserves from 1957 to 1961. After receiving an Honorable Discharge from the Navy in 1961, Andy began working for Safeway in Landover, MD, where he worked until he retired in June 2006. During his 45 years with Safeway, Andy was promoted multiple times. After getting married in 1960, Andy and his wife, Anne Marie, settled in Glenn Dale, MD, buying a house there in the mid 1960's. Always pleasant and kind to everyone, Andy was an engaging conversationalist, with a unique and contagious laugh. First and foremost, Andy loved spending time with his family, particularly his 4 grand children, all of whom had a great adoration for Poppy". Never far from Andy's side was his dog Buddy, and 2 cats, Mr. T & Piccolina. Andy was always eager to lend a helping hand, and enjoyed tinkering with house and car projects. Andy loved spending time with his family and friends at Chincoteague Island, VA, where he maintained a vacation home. Closer to home, Andy was active in the Circulators Square Dance Club, the Belair Square Cats, and the Ascension Catholic Church, where he was a member and sang in the Choir. Andy joined several members of the choir to sing at local nursing homes in and around the Bowie / Glenn Dale Area. Andy and his wife, Anne Marie, served on several committee's that brought the June 2000 National Square Dance convention to Baltimore, MD, attended by over 10,000 square dancers. Andy is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Anne Marie Giancoli, his daughters, Terry Sutton of Knoxville, MD & Joy Limon of Ellicott City, MD. Andy was predeceased by son, Andrew Giancoli. Andy is also survived by 4 grandchildren, Sara Sutton, and Jami, Greg, & Jenna Limon, and his sister, Sira M. Koback of Silver Spring, MD.
