On October 20, 2014 Dara Belton Lindsay, 41, departed this earthly life for her heavenly home. Dara, the only child of Franklin and Olive Belton was born October 7, 1973 in Bronx, New York. Dara attended Grace Lutheran Elementary School where in first grade she met Danielle McFarland who has been her dear friend for 35 years. She attended Our Lady of Victory High School in New York where she initiated international cultural events for the first time at the school and received a Teacher/Alumni Award. Dara is a graduate of Morgan State University where she entered on a Pre-Med Scholarship. While at Morgan State, Dara was initiated into the Alpha Gamma Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority. Dara loved her Soros and they loved her and have been a constant presence in her life during her challenges and her triumphs. Dara is a former member of the Central Church of Christ and a current member of the Suitland Road Church of Christ. Dara's church family has been a true blessing, there for her over the years, supporting her, and her family, spiritually and in anyway they could. Dara loved life and lived it to the fullest, even during her bout with cancer. She loved learning and education, earning a Masters Degree in Special Education from Trinity College. She was a Teacher in Washington, D.C. and in Prince George County. Most recently Dara was striving to complete her EDD and started her own business, which she named Grasping Goals: Special Education Advocacy. In 2009 Dara met and fell in love with Walter Lindsay, Jr. whom she married on May 21, 2011 in Norfolk, VA. On August 29, 2012 to their union a sweet daughter, Kaia, was born bringing them much happiness and making Dara's beautiful daughter, and Walter's "Girl" Joi (Summerville) (Marvin Summerville) from a previous marriage, a big sister, and completing their truly blessed, and happy family. Dara loved the Lord, life, her family and friends, and helping others. She requested that we CELEBRATE her life with songs and laughter. She wanted us to remember the happy, funny, good times we shared with her. We will miss her greatly. Dara leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband Walter, and two daughters, Joi and Kaia.
