David William Walters

June 18, 1917 — September 5, 2014

David Walters - 97, of Crofton, succumbed to COPD on Friday, September 5th, 2014 at Anne Arundel Medical Center. Mr. Walters enlisted in the Army during World War II, shortly after the Pearl Harbor Attack. He rose to the rank of sergeant, before being commissioned as an officer in the Army Transportation Corps. He participated in the invasion of Normandy, the liberation of France and the invasion of Germany, returning home and leaving the Army in1946 with the rank of first lieutenant. He returned to civilian employment as a store manager with the G.C. Murphy Company, until his first retirement at age 65. Thereafter, he worked another twenty years as a sales agent for Silburne Souvenir Company. David started his third career at age 87, working as a caregiver to senior citizens, most of whom were younger than he. He continued to work in this capacity until age 94! In the last few years, he has been active at the O'Malley Senior Center in Odenton, and with his family, church and friends. Throughout his life, David had the ability to give the gift of humor to all those around him. David was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Geraldine Clark Walters. David is survived by a son, Julian, and two granddaughters, Brittany Walters-Bearden and Danielle Walters. The viewing will be at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 Northwest Crain Highway in Bowie, on Thursday, September 18, 2014 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM; followed immediately by a Life Celebration for family and friends to share their favorite "David" stories. A memorial service will be held at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 1370 Defense Highway in Gambrills on Saturday September 20th beginning at 11:00 AM.
