Martha (Marty) Mae Short was born on May 6, 1930 in Bear Grove, Illinois to Robert and Iva (Manley) Short. She was the eighth of eleven children, two of whom Donnie and Billy, died as toddlers. Her other siblings, Marian (and Virgil) Hicks; Bob (and Olive) Short; Jim (and Berniece) Short; Katie (and Chick) Civitate; Millie (and Wayne) Bandy; Peg (and John) Pingerra; Jack Short; and Dick (and Vicki) Short all preceded her in death. She moved to Washington, D.C. after high school where she met a handsome young man from Cuba named Alfred (Chico) Aguilera. They were married at Petworth Baptist Church in the District of Columbia on November 5th, 1949. She and Chico made their home in Silver Spring, Maryland. He preceded her in death in 2012. She worked for AT&T, as a phone operator and later a supervisor until she retired in 1985. She then began working at Holy Cross Hospital in admissions before retiring in 2005. She moved to Emeritus at Woodward Estates Assisted Living in 2011, where she made some wonderful new friends. There, she discovered that she liked Bingo and crafts. She also really enjoyed music and stories from the giving and very talented people who often came to entertain the residents. Marty loved needlepoint and reading. She enjoyed traveling and loved going to the beach when she and Chico would visit their families in Florida. They would also take day trips to local places like Annapolis, Frederick and Alexandria. She loved restaurants, but really enjoyed homemade Cuban food. More than anything, she loved her family and stayed in close touch with many of them. She especially loved the family reunions in Hillsboro, Illinois. She was saddened by the loss of so many family members and is surely delighted to be reunited with them again. She is survived by her sister-in-laws, Connie Short, Martha Aguilera and Rosario Aguilera and many nieces and nephews, Miriam Dearson, Pablo Aguilera, Edgar Aguilera, Lily Aguilera, Norma Hernandez, Anna Espinosa, John Aguilera, Robert Cordovez, Roland Cordovez, Richard Cordovez, Jeannie Huber, Mary Lou Hicks, Jerry Short, Joe Short, John Short, Lynda Laws, David Short, Joe Civitate, Susan Hughson, Vicki Short-Williams, Tony Short, Kia Kay Short and Kara Sue Short.
