Troyer, Jarnot DeVere Sr.,79 of Bowie, Maryland (known by many as "Ty") passed away on August 30, 2014. He was the husband of Virginia Holmes Troyer to whom he had been married for 53 years. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Lisa Lynn Troyer. He was born at home in Clarence, New York on July 1, 1935 to Raymond and Edna Troyer. He first attended a one-room school house and graduated from Clarence High School. After that, he enlisted in the army and spent two years of active duty receiving an honorable discharge. He then attended Clarkson College of Technology in Potsdam, New York where he earned a Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree. In college he was a member of Triangle Fraternity, a national social fraternity and Chi Epsilon, a civil engineering honor fraternity. Right after graduation, he and Virginia moved to Washington, DC, where he started working in the Highway Division of the DC government. He worked there for over 40 years starting as a civil engineer working to improve the streets of Washington, then pioneering' the use of computer technology to solve highway problems and eventually helping to develop a GIS system for the District. Three things have been most important in Ty's life. His family, his church, and his community. He is survived by his daughter, Karen and her husband David Woollard of Manassas, Virginia, and his son Jay (Jarnot D. Troyer Jr.) He loved his grandchildren, Joshua, Jonathan, Sierra, Tj (Jarnot D. Troyer III), Jenna, Matthew and Jacob and spent many hours as a helper and good example when they needed him. He enjoyed participating in all his children's activities as they grew up especially in the Boy Scout and Camp Fire programs where his camping expertise and civil engineering skills came in handy. Ty was a member of the Bowie Church of Christ for over 50 years serving as a Deacon, helping in developing educational programs, teaching Sunday School, and most importantly being an example of how one loves and serves the Lord. Ty was active in his community as a member of the Bowie Advisory Planning Board from its beginnings in the 60s until his death. He served as Chairman of that Board for many years. He also served as a team captain and committee member for many American Cancer Society's Relay for Life events. Ty was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution. He was a member of two Volksmarching clubs and loved to walk those 10K all over the USA. His hobbies were gardening and stamp collecting. Ty enjoyed trips to the Holy Land, Europe, and Troyer reunions. He is missed by his cat Skye, who he rescued and saved her life. His family will miss his long' stories and his sense of humor. The family thanks the nurses in the Critical Care Unit of Anne Arundel Medical Center who gave him so much loving care. There will be a visitation at the Beall Funeral Home, 6512 Crain Hwy, Bowie, MD on Friday, September 5 from 6-8 pm. A funeral service will be held at the Bowie Church of Christ 2518 Kenhill Drive, on Saturday, September 6 at 11 a.m. Interment will be at a later date in Somerset, New York.
