Barbara M. Knepley of Millersville, Maryland passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sunday, July 20, 2014 after a brief struggle with cancer and a longer struggle against dementia. Barbara was born to the late Charles and Ruth Wegemer on April 1, 1946 in St. Marys, Pennsylvania, She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Physical Education from the Pennsylvania State University in 1968. She devoted 32 years of her life as an outstanding educator with 29 of those years in the Prince George's County Public Schools. After retirement in 2001, Barbara and her husband, John, enjoyed traveling and the outdoors as avid hikers and tandem bicyclists. Her life, though cut awfully short, was filled with a loving family, great friends, and many cherished moments. She will be remembered for her radiant smile and positive attitude, and as a caring and devoted aunt to her nieces and nephews. She is survived by her beloved husband of 45 years, John R. Knepley, sisters and brothers-in-law Bernadette and Larry Hawkins, Christine and Pat McLane, Charlotte and Jim Corish, and Kimberly and Jim Sullivan as well as 8 nieces, 7 nephews, and 4 grand nephews. Family will receive friends at the family-owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Thursday, July 24, 2014 from 7 to 9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1800 Seton Dr., Crofton, MD on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 11:30am. Private interment, Crownsville Veterans Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in her honor may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the American Heart Association.
