Edgar Thomas Garvey Sr. April 4, 1936-July 5, 2014 Edgar T. Garvey Sr., (Ed), 78, of Crofton, MD, passed away on July 5, 2014, while doing one of his favorite thingsworking in his yard. Ed was born in Baltimore, MD on April 1, 1936. He attended Towson University to become a teacher. He left school to start his career at Sears, where he worked his way up the managerial ladder, leading his teams to success until his retirement in 1993. Ed is survived by his loving wife Anna, his four children, Edgar Garvey Jr., Michael Garvey, Steven Garvey, and Christina Garvey-Berman, his ten grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, his sister Grace Brown, and his nieces and nephews. With a great love for family, Ed was happiest spending time with his loved ones. He was the true patriarchsomeone everyone could count on no matter what. Ed put his family first, and always said his greatest accomplishment in life was seeing them grow and flourish. Ed was a Baltimore man through-and-through, and it showed in his love of the Baltimore Ravens and Baltimore Orioles. He was an avid reader, and also enjoyed Scrabblehaving played thousands of games over the years. Ed was also known for his "famous chocolate cake" that he brought with him to every family event. With a great love of the Lord, Ed was a long-standing member of his church, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Parish in Crofton, Md. Ed is predeceased by his parents, Edmund and Elizabeth Garvey, his grandson Steven Garvey Jr., and his granddaughter, Jennifer Garvey. Family will receive friends at the family-owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Wednesday, July 9, 2014 from 6 to 8pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 1800 Seton Dr., Crofton, MD on Thursday, July 10, 2014 at 10am. Interment private.
