Doris Elma Adams Kelley was born at home on a farm in Warsaw, New York, on 2 May 1930 to Lloyd Lester and Florence Main Adams. In 1957, Dorie married Joseph Edward Kelley in Corning NY. They lived in Buffalo and then Rochester, and in 1969, Dorie and Joe and their five children moved to Rockville MD. There, Dorie volunteered as a leader in Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, Campfire, Girl Scouts, and other youth groups. During her life, she shared her love of nature with countless children and adults, most recently at the Patuxent Wildlife Refuge. In 2012, she was awarded the Girl Scout 50-year service pin. Dorie and her family moved to Mechanicsville MD in 1979, and she worked at the US Naval Test Pilot School in Patuxent River. She moved to Annapolis and worked at the state legislature from 1989-1992. Then she retired and traveled the world for three years, finally settling in Bowie MD. Genealogy was a passion of Dorie's, and she contacted many long-lost cousins and tracked down family picture and stories. She played the guitar and the piano, and she loved to sing. She collected stamps, enjoyed card games and Scrabble, and watched Jeopardy! every night. She drank coffee and whisky and beer. After a long illness, Dorie passed away in her sleep at home on 21 June 2014. A life-long believer in recycling, Dorie donated her body to the Anatomy Board of Maryland for medical education and research. Her ashes will be interred at her husband's grave in Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery.
