Jane M Friel

Jane M. Friel,77 of Bowie passed away peacefully Friday June,20,2014 surrounded by her family. She was born September 8,1936 to the late Joseph and Molly Rooney. She was preceded in death by her late husband John A. Friel Jr. Jane was born in Boston, Ma. and graduated from Belmont High School and Regis College with a degree in teaching. She retired from the Saint Pius X School in Bowie after 22 years of service. Her entire career upon graduation spanned parts of five decades. As a youth Jane enjoyed figure skating and cheerleading, and as an adult she enjoyed playing tennis and doing crafts. She loved the forty plus years she spent with her Bridge group and was also an avid reader. She devoted her adult years to raising a family, and gave much of her time to community causes. The PTA, Bowie Boys and Girls Club, Camp Fire Girls are just a few of the organizations she gave her time to. Jane was a devout Catholic, never missing a mass and was an active member of Sacred Heart Church for over forty four years. She is survived by 4 children: Susan, John, Jennifer and Paul; as well as 9 grandchildren: Christopher, John, Jennifer, John, Alexandra, Matthew, Shannon, Kaitlyn, and Matthew.
