Frances Ruth Mitchell was born on August 28, 1938, in Asheville, North Carolina, to Rome and Ruby (English) Woody. She married Ronald Carter Mitchell on December 1, 1955, in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Ruth traveled the world with her husband and daughters while her husband was serving in the military. They lived in: Okinawa, Japan for 4 years; England for 5 years; San Angelo, Texas for 5 years, and Fort Meade for 3 years. She played softball for 5 years for the Wives Team in RAF Chicksands, England, where her team won the All Europe Softball Tournament. She came to Fort Meade in 1973 while her husband was serving in the U.S. Air Force as a Master Sargent. After his retirement in 1975, their family settled in Crofton, Md. There she was employed by Safeway as a night-stock member for 24 years, retiring in 1997. She also started her own cleaning business and ran the business for 25 years where she then handed the business over to her daughter, Ramona. In retirement, she enjoyed spending time with her family and helping raise her granddaughter. Her family wrote: "Ruth's generosity and kind heart was an inspiration to her family. She was the most giving person that they had ever known. She always put the needs of others before herself. She took pride in her family and put them above all else." She is survived by her husband, Ronald Carter Mitchell; her daughter, Beverly Diane Mitchell of Sacremento, CA.; her daughter, Donna Marie Mitchell of Crofton, MD; her daughter, Ramona Lynn Mitchell of Crofton, MD; her daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda Carolee Dunmyer and David Lee Dunmyer of Centreville, MD; her granddaughter, Shannon Marie Mitchell of Clarksburg, MD; her grandsons, Stephen Graham Woodard and Mitchell Pierce Woodard of Conway, SC; her grandsons, Robert Mitchell Dunmyer and Michael Alan Dunmyer of Centreville, MD; grandson, Daniel Matthew Austin of Dunkirk, MD.; and soon to be great granddaughter.
