Sarah "Bernice" Santos

Sarah "Bernice" Santos, age 84 of Stevensville, Maryland, past away in her home on Saturday, April 26, 2014. She was born in Jamaica, NY on September 17, 1929, daughter of the late William and Ada (Maupin) Large. She was the youngest of five children. She graduated from Hyattsville High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. Bernice married Al Santos in 1953 and they shared 61 blissful years together. They built Santos Construction Company where she was the Secretary/Treasurer for over 30 years. She was a long time parishoner at St. Bernard's Catholic Church in Riverdale, MD and St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Chester Maryland. As a devoted wife, mother, grand and great grandmother, aunt and friend, she will be missed by the many lives touched. She is survived by her husband, Alvaro Santos; 2 daughters, Adamaria (Santos "Robert") Galeas and Tina (Mike) Belasco, sister-in-law Arlene Large, 4 grandchildren, Alan (Jessica) Santos, Kristina (Eric) Kidwell, Addie Belasco and Sally Belasco, 3 great grandchildren, Isabella Santos, Angelina Santos and Lillian Kidwell. She was second mother to Dinky, Louie, Isabel, Laura & Dawn, Frannie, Cathielle and many more that called her "Mame". She had a zest for life. She was the rock and center of the family and organized all holiday events. She always made any event fun and interesting. She helped everyone in need and opened her home to all. A memorial gathering will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 30th, at the Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW, Crain Highway. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie. A Prayer Service will be celebrated at 8:00 p.m. immediately following the viewing.
