Ida Mae White, daughter of the late Sandy White and mother Helen White, was born on January 22, 1938 in Jacksonville, North Carolina. The Savior reached out his hand and took Ida home with him on Wednesday, March 26, 2014. Ida was educated in the public schools in Onslow County, Jacksonville, North Carolina. She furthered her education by attending a barber school in Washington, DC. She worked several years as a barber and in the retail industry until she gained employment at Walter Reed Medical Center in 1974. She worked as a Laboratory Technician with 37 years of service upon her retirement in 2011. She truly loved her profession and enjoyed working with her colleagues. With her caring heart of wanting to help others, after retiring Ida volunteered her services at the Veteran Administration Hospital in Washington until her death. Ida accepted Christ at an early age and joined Washington Chapel Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville, North Carolina. Continuing her faith and wanting to serve the Lord, she joined New Samaritan Baptist Church in Washington and was a member for over 30 years. She served as a member of the Samaritan Singers and Scholarship ministries. In her leisure, she was a member of the Order of Eastern Star organization beginning in 1992. She held the title of Warder, Ester, and numerous other positions. She was preceded in death by two of her brothers, Leonard Ray White, Samuel White, and one of her sisters, Ruth Mae White. She leaves to cherish her loving memories; her mother, Helen White of Jacksonville, North Carolina; three daughters, Margarette Watts of Wilmington, North Carolina, Helen Scott (Edrick) of Raeford, North Carolina, and Twana Walker (Jamal) of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; nine grandchildren Ronald Watts, Alexis Devone, Arista Watts all of Wilmington, North Carolina, Randall Watts of Los Angeles, California, Edrick Scott, Jr. of Raeford, North Carolina and Gerrod Scott of Fort Knox, Kentucky, Jamal C. Walker, Dejante Walker, and Zhaquan Walker all of Upper Marlboro, Maryland; and two great granddaughters Bella Devone of Wilmington, North Carolina and Rita Sawaguchi of Morioka, Japan; four sisters, Donnie Prioleau (Wayne) of Albany, Georgia; Margie Stanton, Darlene White-Jordan, Patricia Johnson (Larry); one brother, Lester White all of Jacksonville North Carolina; and several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
