William Clary Slusher, Jr., of Bowie, MD and formerly of Bluefield, WV died Wednesday January 22, 2014. He was born December 9, 1927 to the late William Clary Slusher, Sr. and Gertrude Mattingly. He graduated High School in Connecticut and graduated from the University of Kentucky. Also, he had served his country in the United States Navy. Bill moved to Washington DC and worked as a journalist/editor for Merkel Press and International Association of firefighters. In November of 1954 Bill married Jane Bevans. Bill was a lover of golf, tennis, swimming, walking, and being outdoors. He loved the sunshine. Jane and Bill were both lovers of animals and always had them. They both had founded Jhabul Kennels. Bills favorite animal was his cat Henry. Bill was a devout Catholic and loved his church. Also, he was a 50 year member of the Knights of Columbus. He is predeceased by his wife Jane Slusher, his sons William Slusher III and Mark Slusher and by his sisters Anne Morris and Jo Cox. Survivors include: his sister Recie (Chuck) Crawley, Daughters: Elizabeth (Carl) Burkowske, Ruth Anne Snyder, Jane Marie (Tom) Welsh, 10 Grandchildren: Jill, Carl Jr. William and Catie Burkowske, Justin, Julie, and Many Snyder, Torrie Slusher, Kaitlyn and Matthew Welsh. Family will receive friends at the family-owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on January 30, 2014 from 6-8 pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St.Pius X Catholic Church, 14720 Annapolis Rd. Bowie, MD on January 31, 2014 at 10:30 am. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery, Clinton, MD.
