Eileen "Jahn" Hoffman passed away December 14, 2013 with, Greg, her beloved husband of 30 years, at her bedside. Jahn was a life-long resident of the D.C. area, but loved travel and had made several trips to Europe over the years as well as multiple trips to Canada and Mexico. She and Greg vacationed within the States as well; enjoying destinations from Maine, New Orleans, and Hawaii, both with, and to visit, friends. Jahn was known for her easy laugh and joyous nature and her great love of animals. She and husband, Greg, had several dogs during their years together; among them, her beloved Bassett Hound, Penelope, whom she leaves behind to comfort Greg. Predeceased by her parents, Quincy and Lohr Butler, Jahn is survived by her two beloved sisters, Sheila Miller (Ed) and Kay Butler Landry (Leo) who will miss her dearly. Jahn also leaves behind two nieces, Julie Reddersen, Jennifer Vickery and two nephews, David Reddersen and Michael Wilson. Even though Jahn may not have appeared the adventurous type, over the years she enjoyed hiking, biking, camping, rafting, skiing, hang gliding and hot air ballooning, among other activities. She was an engaging person who always reached out to meet and listen to stories others had to share. She had a flare for fashion and make-up - remarking to many friends that she was happy to have had her permanent eyeliner done before this last hospitalization. Her work history began shortly after graduation from Crossland High School in 1967 when she went to work for GEICO in Bethesda, MD. She then went on to work as a negotiator for AFGE and later in human resources for Westat in Rockville, MD; all the while continuing her love of painting and sketching. She was a member of a talented art group for years- going with them on occasional retreats to the beach. One of her favorite and most recent trips, however, was with her nephew, David, when they shared a spectacular time at Disney World. Being a true Marylander, Jahn loved nothing better than sharing a steaming table of hot crabs (apple cider vinegar, please) with friends. She also loved her nightly glass of wine and was fond of an occasional soft-serve ice cream. I'm certain we all have many stories we would love to share about good times with Jahn. I encourage you to reach out to do just that on this site or among friends whenever possible. I promise you, others will want to listen.
