Joan Elaine DeHenzel of Crofton, MD and formerly of Bowie, died peacefully on November 23, 2013 after a brief illness. She was 82. She was born on May 13, 1931, in Chester, PA, to Gertrude and Dewey Brady. She grew up in Wildwood, NJ and was a 1949 graduate of Wildwood High School. She was married to Robert J. DeHenzel on May 13, 1950 and lived in Philadelphia, PA and Levittown, NJ before moving to Bowie, MD in 1963. She worked in many accounting and secretarial positions, including at Belair National Bank, Bowie Blade News, Belair Engineering, and Plumbers and Pipefitters National Union. She was an early member of St. Pius X Church and later became one of the founding members of All Saints Lutheran Church in 1982, where she remained a member until the time of her death. She was completely devoted to her husband, Bob, who had a 30 year career with the federal government, and her seven children, all of whom grew up in Bowie. She is survived by her children: Robert DeHenzel, Jr. of Bowie, Daniel DeHenzel of Riva, Diane DeHenzel Mackey of Odenton, James DeHenzel of Sterling, VA, David DeHenzel of Wye Mills, Kenneth DeHenzel of Lusby, and Karen DeHenzel Harder of Owings, 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Jean Helms of Oak Ridge, TN. Her husband predeceased her in March 2010.
