Ethel Arlee Chandler, born in Ruleville, Mississippi the daughter of Quinton and Martha (Adams) Chandler. She was from a large family of eleven children and helped pick cotton as a child on the family farm. Ethel was preceded in death by siblings: Louise, Addie Mae, Laura Lucille, John Lewis, Martha Orene, Cassie Jewel and Albert Clifton. She is survived by three siblings Robert Lester Chandler of Alabama, William Clyde Chandler of Mississippi and a sister Dorothy Lee Waterman of Indiana. After graduating high school in Sunflower, Mississippi, Ethel moved to Washington, DC in 1944. Ethel secured a government job as a secretary with the Dept. of the Interior and retired from that job, August 31, 1986. In 1945 Ethel was married to Howard Cobb until his death in 1968. To this marriage four children were born. Diana Arleen who died in 1946. Deborah Ann (Cobb) Chapman who died in 2005. Two sons survive, Josia Mason Cobb of New Hampshire and Howard Benjamin Cobb of Maryland. In 1971 Ethel married, William Chapman. Over the years they enjoyed many travels across the United States and the world until his death in 2007. Ethel also is survived by four grandchildren Jessie Cobb and Lisa Lacz of New Hampshire. Christopher Cobb of Virginia, Timothy Cobb of Ohio and one great grandchild Joshua Cobb of Maryland. For almost three years Mrs Chapman has made her residence at, Woodward Estates in Bowie. About two months ago she became ill with a lung infection and passed away while an inpatient at Larkin Chase. During her stay there she was surrounded by her close friends, Linda Violante, Carol Smith and Charles Edwards on a daily basis. Her brothers, Clyde and Lester made the drive and had a wonderful visit.
