Lensler, Karl John, 82, a Bowie resident of 48 years, died on August 2, 2013 of congestive heart failure. Karl was the devoted husband of Josephine Kovacic Lensler for nearly 52 years; father of Karen Kendall (Bill) of Fort Collins, Colorado and Linda Holiman of Bowie; grandfather to Madeline, Karly, and Olivia; brother of Josephine Theisen of Muskegon, Michigan (deceased) and Lucy Lee of Tulsa, Oklahoma. Karl was born in 1931 and was raised by German immigrant parents in Muskegon, Michigan. He attended Holy Cross Seminary at Notre Dame University and graduated in 1954 with a degree in philosophy. He then attended Holy Cross Seminary in Washington DC for three years then became a math teacher in 1957 at Maryland Park Junior High School and Springbrook High School. He received his master's degree in education from Catholic University. He retired after 35 years as a computer systems analyst at the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). After one month, he returned to the working world at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for 10 years finally retiring for good in 2009. He was a faithful member of St. Pius X Catholic Church in Bowie and the Center for Deaf Ministries parish in Landover Hills. His hobbies were spending time with family, participating in Church activities, taking photos of family and friends, and documenting family history as well as the historical events that occurred in the 59 years he lived in the DC area.
