Bessie S. Dow, 77, of Kotzebue, Alaska, formerly of Bowie, MD passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Delaware Hospice Center in Milford, DE. Bess was born October 5, 1936 in Deering, Alaska. She was the daughter of the late Donald Moto and Selma Poorsuk. Bess graduated from Tacoma General School of Nursing in Washington State. She was employed as an RN at Bethel Hospital where she met her late husband, SFC John H. Dow. They resided in Alaska until Mr. Dow was transferred to Walter Reed in Washington, DC. Bess then began working at Bethesda Naval Hospital. She retired from nursing and became a seamstress at her home while raising her 6 children. Bess is survived by her six children, Pam Herron of Virginia, John, George, Jimmy and Pete Dow of Bowie, MD and daughter Mary Poulis and her husband Mike of Rehoboth Beach, Delaware; 10 grandchildren, Joseph, Nick, Colin, Raymond, Rochelle and her husband JC, Adrianna, Christian, Cheyenne and James. Her brothers, Calvin, Dickie and Ronald Moto of Alaska; many cousins, aunts, uncles and friends. Bess will always be remembered for her love of family, friends, sewing, knitting, crabs and salmon.
