Beverly C. Stoops

November 1, 1921 — June 25, 2013

Beverly Carolyn Carlson was born November 1, 1921 in Jamestown, NY, the daughter of Blaine Oscar Carlson and Alida Josephine Anderson. She was the oldest sibling who included her brothers, Sherwood (Bud) and Robert (Bob) Carlson. They grew up in Falconer and Jamestown NY. She and her several girlfriends (Gerry, Milly, Alice, Onn and many more) would go skating at Lakewood, Celeron and at the Rollerrama. They would go to the shows at the Palace Theater. Beverly graduated from Jamestown High School. She worked 6 days a week and enjoyed her coffee and donut every morning. Beverly enjoyed the company of her girlfriends and the fellows she would meet. She met "Kenny" and would write to him every day while he was in the Marines. Later she moved to Washington D.C. in 1944 and worked for the U.S. Navy at the Bureau of Supplies and Accounts. Being 5-9, thin and very attractive, Beverly went to modeling school and was offered a few modeling jobs. While in DC, she met, Joseph K. Roberts on May 30th, 1946. They were married six months later on November 16, 1946 in Jamestown, NY. They lived in Washington DC and then moved to the Maryland suburbs. They had a daughter, Beverly Jo and a son Stephen. Beverly was a housewife but later worked for several companies and agencies including Vitro, a florist shop, and volunteered at Holy Cross Hospital. She enjoyed her children. Her hobbies included rug braiding, bird watching, cooking, photography, antiquing, listening to Frank Sinatra records and the enjoyment of good company and friends. On most Holidays the family would travel to Jamestown to be with her parents and her brother's families. Bev and Joe moved to Bowie, MD to be close to Bevy Jo's and Stephen's families. They became members of All Saints Lutheran Church. Her faith was a big part of her life. Joe passed away in October 1998. Beverly remarried in 2002 when she found "Kenny" again. Kenny passed away in 2008. Beverly stayed close to her children. Her daily activities included reading the Bible, talking with friends at the assisted living facility. She would often sit outside to enjoy God's creation and look for deer and other wildlife nearby. Acquaintances often described Beverly as being, "attractive, elegant, fashionable and stately". She was caring, good natured, thankful and appreciative of everyone. Beverly loved her children, grandchildren and the great-grandchildren. Though God has taken her, our love for her will always remain.
