JUNE CALDWELL TURNER, 77, a beloved wife, devoted mother and retired school teacher who was also a dedicated member of St. Edward's Catholic Church and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., died May 10 at her home in Bowie. She had lived in Prince George's County since 1973. June C. Turner was born June 11, 1935, in Denver, Colorado into the loving family of Wilba and Inez Caldwell. She was the youngest of eleven children, having seven brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Turner attended Wilberforce University for three years before transferring and graduating from Denver University with a bachelor degree in Social Work. However, her true love was education, working more than 30 years as a teacher and retiring from Saint Gabriel's Catholic School in Washington, D.C. Married to the late Dr. Henry C. Turner, COL, USA, Ret. she served this country as an Army spouse for 30 years both stateside and overseas. During this time she raised four children, three sons that graduated from the United States Military Academy and a daughter that graduated from the United States Naval Academy. Three of the four children have retired from the military after serving more than 20 years and one is still on active duty. Mrs. Turner is a "Golden" Soror of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority for her more than 50 years of service to all mankind. A member of the Iota Gama Omega chapter, she served as the Chair of the Protocol Committee, Chair of the Literacy Committee, and Co-Chair of the Cotillion. An active member of Saint Edward's Church for forty years, Mrs. Turner served on the Parish Council and taught CCD to numerous children. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry, her parents and siblings. She leaves to celebrate her life four childern, LTC Henry C. Turner Jr., USA, Ret. of Upper Marlboro, the Honorable Ingrid M. Turner, Prince George's County Council Member, CDR, USN, Ret. of Bowie, LTC Michael E. Turner of Columbia, SC., and LTC Eric C. Turner, USA, Ret. of Haymarket, VA; three daughter in-laws, LTC Winifred Turner, USA, Ret., MAJ Olivia Williams-Turner, USA, Ret., and Alfie Lena Turner; nine grandchildren, Langston, Nicole, Dominic, Danielle, Erin, Leah, Michael, Mikayla, and Mikenzie; and one great grandson, Isiah.
