Doris J. Kitchen

To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven Ecclesiastes 3:1 A Time to be Born Doris (Jacob) Kitchen was born January 17, 1942 in Atlanta, Georgia to the late John B. and Katie Mae Jacobs. She was the third of five children. A Time to Live Doris spent her childhood in Atlanta, Georgia and was a 1960 graduate of Booker T. Washington High School. After graduation, she worked 20+ years at Rich's Department Store as a sales clerk in women clothing and fine china. While employed at Rich's, her creativity was displayed throughout the store each holiday season when she decorated the store. She moved to Albany, Georgia in 1983 where she continued her retail career at Jason's Boutique. She had a brief stint as a bank teller at Sun Trust Bank. In June 2010 she made her way to Bowie, Maryland. A Time to Love In 1960 Doris married the late Jessie Buckner Jr., and to this union a daughter was born, Cassandra. Doris was remarried in 1983 to the late Willie C. Kitchen. Because of her love and passion for children, Doris opened her heart to; Kent, Timothy and Shakeria. As a foster parent, she touched the lives of many. A Time to Serve. Doris accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized as a profession of her faith. In Atlanta, she united with Flipper Temple AME Church before moving her membership to Mt Pilgrim Baptist Church, Albany, Georgia. It was there that she rendered 30 years of faithful dedication as demonstrated by her tireless passion as a servant of God. She served as a Deaconess, member of the Senior Choir, Sisterhood, Youth Ministry, arts and crafts teacher for Vacation Bible School. Doris was a Foster and Adoptive Parent for Dougherty Department of Family and Children Services, and member of the State of Georgia and Dougherty County Foster Parent Association. She was equally dedicated to her missionary work in Albany. She was a founding member of both Martin Luther King, Jr. Outreach Mission and House of Mercy Outreach Center, where she also served as Assistant Director. In 2010 Doris moved to Bowie, Maryland and united with First Baptist Church of Glenarden. A Time to Die In the early morning of May 4, 2013, in Portsmouth New Hampshire, Doris departed this earthly life to enter in an eternal rest A Time to Mourn She leaves to cherish here loving memory; her daughter and son-in-law, Cassandra and Harold Spears; son's Kent and Timothy Kitchen; daughter, Shakeria Kitchen; brother and sister-in-law, James and Vera Jacobs; Sister and brother-in-law, Thelma and William Stroud, Jr.; brother and late sister-in-law Ethan and Sheila Jacobs; brother, Larry Jacobs; Grandson, Harold III; Great-Granddaughter, Halli, a host of nieces, nephews, church family and many devoted friends.
