Peter Q. Nyce Jr., a lifelong resident of Washington, DC and Mt. Victoria, Maryland, passed away on April 27, 2013 after a brief illness. He was 81 years old. He attended St. Albans and The McDonough School. He graduated from Washington & Lee University where he was a member of Sigma Chi fraternity. He attended the Washington College of Law at American University. Upon graduation he became a member of the DC and Maryland Bars. He practiced law initially with the Social Security Administration. He later joined U.S. Army Legal Services Agency, Regulatory and Patent Law Office, representing the Department of Defense in utility regulatory hearings across the United States. For about a decade he acted as Special Assistant United States Attorney for New Mexico with the US Attorney's Office in Albuquerque. He retired in 2011 after 47 years of service. He also served in the Army reserves as an Armor Officer in M-48 Tanks and later transferred to the Judge Advocate General's Corps. He retired with the rank of Major. He enjoyed time spent on his family farm "Nyce Manor" in Southern Maryland. He was a private pilot regularly attended sport aviation events and owned airplanes for more than thirty years. He enjoyed boating and spending time outdoors. He frequently enjoyed lunch and family events at his favorite restaurant, the Peking Gourmet Inn, Falls Church, VA, where he had been a customer since 1978. He was predeceased by his former wife, Christine Price Nyce. Mr. Nyce is survived by his children; Peter Q. Nyce, III and his wife, Susan. of Annapolis, MD, Erik H. Nyce and his wife, Cathy, of Bowie, MD and Valerie A. Nyce and her husband, Craig (Huck) Swick, of Mt. Victoria, MD, and his grandchildren; Matthew P. Nyce, Stephen W. Nyce, Caroline Mimbs Nyce and Erik H. Nyce, Jr; and his long-term companion, Margaret Nolan of Accokeek, MD. Family will receive friends at the family-owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Friday, May 3, 2013 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm, where a Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at 11am. Interment, Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Donations in lieu of flowers, in memory of Peter Q.
