Robert "Bob" Coons, 85, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on Wednesday, April 10 at Anne Arundel Medical Center after a long illness. Bob is survived by his wife Betty of 61 years, son Bob Jr. of Annandale, VA, daughter Judy Conner of Bowie, MD, grandsons Gregory, Matthew and Thomas Conner, his brother Howard Coons and sister Marjorie Higgins of Oneonta, NY. He was predeceased by his parents and two sisters, Marian Coons and Mabel Myers. Bob was born on February 20, 1928 to Howard and Mabel Coons in Stamford, New York, and grew up in Oneonta NY where he met and married Betty Nichols. He served in the Navy as a Hospital Corpsman and then became a mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. He eventually moved to the Washington DC area and became Assistant Inspector In-Charge where he worked until his retirement in 1980. He has resided in Bowie, Maryland since 1968. Bob loved playing golf and played whenever he could. He was best known for his sense of humor and for always having a good joke to tell. He enjoyed carpentry projects and made furniture for his family. Bob was always there to help friends and family. To honor Bob's wishes, there will be no visitation; there will be a private burial service for family at Lakemont Memorial Gardens in Davidsonville, Maryland. Memorial donations may be made in Bob's name to Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins.
