Joseph Malatino, 98, formerly of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, passed away in Bowie, Maryland, on April 7, 2013. Born on January 29, 1915, he was a son of the late Anthony Malatino and Lucia (Patane) Malatino. He was a graduate of the Buehler School of Aeronautics in Newark, New Jersey. He served in World War II, repairing aircraft from remote island bases in the South Pacific. Joseph retired as an Equipment Specialist with the Navy Ship Parts Control Center in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and a Senior Master Sargent with the Pennsylvania National Guard. He was active in Toastmasters International, serving as a Lieutenant Governor for the Mid Atlantic Region, and a two time Post Commander of the American Legion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine (Greco) Malatino, on January 14, 2011; brothers Orlando and James; and sisters Rose Ranado and Josephine Ranado. Surviving are his son Paul and wife Yvonne; granddaughter Alexis Jenkins, her husband Kacy, and great grandson Dominic; sister Angelina Amico; brother Dominic; and his many nieces and nephews. Services and interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at 1pm on Wednesday, May 15, 2103. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Saint Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, 16304 Pond Meadow Lane, Bowie, MD 20716-1863.
