Gene was born and raised in Norfolk, Virginia. He served proudly in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. ATLANTA and the U.S.S. ALLEN M. SUMNER. From 1947 to 1950. He also served proudly for the National Guard of the District of Columbia and the National Guard of the United States until 1955. He was a long term member of the American Legion. He owned/operated "Gene's Towing" of Cottage City/Riverdale, MD areas for many years before becoming a Taxi driver until retiring at 78 years of age. Gene leaves behind 7 children: Thelma Bozzi & husband John of Hughsville, Maryland; Virginia Whittlesey & husband Jim of Jefferson, Maryland; Winona Burrell & husband Scott of Douglasville, Georgia; Patricia Ringley of Sneedville, Tennessee; Vickey Smith of Glen Burnie, Maryland; Karen Smith of Ellicott City, Maryland; and Keith Smith & wife Amanda of Murfreesboro, Tennessee, and his former wife, Janice S. Smith of Brunswick, Maryland. He also leaves behind 15 Grandchildren: Ben Riggleman, Nick Riggleman, Bethany Defibaugh, James Cutshaw, Jr., Adam Cutshaw, Paul Ruble, Eddie Ruble, Micheal Burrell, Samantha Burrell, Steven Burrell, Kenneth Smith-Grace, Daniel Smith-Grace, Stefanie Reavis, Nicole Reavis & Matthew McKlveen. Along with 19 Great Grandchildren. Harvey leaves behind his little sister Thelma Davis & husband Ed of Davenport, Florida along with 3 nieces & a nephew. He is preceded in death by 5 children: Alma "Jeannie" Cooper, Sherree Ruble, Laura Smith, Donald Smith & David Smith. Along with Granddaughter Christina Armentrout.
