Helen L. Moore (Phillips) age 82, passed away peacefully, on Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at the Villa Rosa Home of Mitchellville, MD. She was born on October 15, 1930 to the late Park and Elizabeth (Kessler) Phillips in Pittsburgh, PA, and was the older of 2 children. After graduating from high school, she attended Cedar Crest College in Allentown, PA. She married the late James W. Moore on June 9, 1984 and they lived together in Lanham, MD until his death in October 2010. Helen was a dedicated Water Safety Instructor and Director for the American Red Cross in Hyattsville, MD until she retired. She enjoyed volunteering at the New Carrollton library with her husband, traveling, playing the piano, singing, and spending time with her family. She was the beloved wife of the late James W. Moore, Jr.; devoted mother of JoAnne Kagle (Richard), James Clearwater (William), and Carol Smiroldo; dear sister of James Phillips; loving grandmother of Kerry Kagle, Holly Dorsey, Tony Smiroldo, and 3 great-grandchildren; Also survived by her husband's children, Lisa Duke (Thomas), James Moore (Laura), and Rebecca Moore; 6 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandchild. Family will receive friends at the family-owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 from 5 to 7pm and on Wednesday, February 6, 2013 from 11am to 12:30pm, with a Funeral Service at 12:30pm. Interment, Maryland Veterans Cemetery in Crownsville, MD. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 2020 East West Highway, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
