Ollie Mae Howell, 89, of Bowie, Maryland, passed away Wednesday, January 23, after a long battle with Alzheimer's. She was born to the late Vernon and Jeddie Haire, August 4, 1923, in York County, South Carolina and married the late Bob Howell in 1945 living in Clover, SC before relocating to Maryland in 1957. She was also preceded in death by her son Lee Howell, two brothers and four sisters. Ollie is survived by two children: John Howell of Charlotte Hall, MD; and Connie Spells of Bowie, MD; five siblings, six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Ollie was strong in her Christian faith and devoted to raising her children accordingly. Prior to the onset of her illness she was a faithful member of Hillcrest Baptist Church, Temple Hills, MD, where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She worked as a hairdresser for many years and later was employed by Parking Management Incorporated in Washington, DC. Retirement from PMI left her time to pursue various hobbies including needlework, word puzzles and jigsaw puzzles. She also loved bowling, watching her daily soap operas and avidly supporting the Redskins through good times and bad. Lovingly keeping up with her children and grandchildren, however, was by far her favorite activity. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting that donations be made to: Alzheimer's Foundation of America 322 Eight Ave., 7th Floor New York, NY 10001 alzfdn.org
