William Roy Prentice

April 16, 1935 — December 27, 2012

Roy was born on April 16, 1935, in Sandusky, Ohio. His parents were Lois and Willis Prentice, both in their teens at the time. They lived with his maternal grandparents affectionately known as Om and Op. Roy was their first born. In the years to come he was joined by a sister, Nancy, and brothers John and David. Roy graduated from Margaretta High Scool in Castalia, Ohio. In 1966 he graduated from Ben Franklin Accounting School in Washington D. C. In the years after graduating from high school, he went to work at Ford Motor Company in Lorain, Ohio. During this time he joined the Air Force National Guard of Ohio. When a crisis developed in Berlin, and active duty airmen were sent to Germany, Roy's Air National Guard unit was activated and sent to Andrews Air Base in Maryland (a suburb of Washington, D. C.). It was here that he met his wife to be, Jane Donohoe. By the time his year's tour of duty was up, they were engaged to be married. Roy and Jane were married on November 10, 1962, in Arlington, Virginia (Jane's home). They started married life in Sandusky. Roy continued to work at the Ford Motor plant. During this time he decided he needed more education, and decided to study accounting. The couple moved to Arlington, Virginia, while Roy continued his education at Ben Franklin Accounting School in Washington D. C.. He graduated in 1966. At this time Roy and Jane bought their first home in Bowie, Maryland, and moved in on July 1966. On March 13, 1967, their first son, Stephen was born. He was followed by Scott, who was born on September 2, 1969. We had the typical all American family, and enjoyed raising our children, including all the activities of sports and school. Roy worked at Pubco Printing Company for 19 years until it was sold to an out of town company. He then went to work at Judd's Printing Company. He was downsized out of that job in 1993. After a year looking for an accounting job, he was able only to get a job as a courier. He worked at this job until retirement in 2003. In 2006 the bright spot in our lives arrived. Steve and Stephanie presented us with our first grandchild, Annamarie. Then the following year, Christopher arrived. Oh what joy they are! Roy and Jane enjoyed retirement until in 2007, when he was diagnosed with Altzheimer's disease. Then in December of 2010 he fell and broke his hip. After surgery, he went to a rehab center which conveniently was around the corner from his townhouse in Crofton, Maryland. The surgery greatly increased the Alzheimers, and he was unable to return home. He resided in the long term section of the Crofton Care and Rehab Center for the last two years of his life. He peacefully went home to be with the Lord at 5:35 a.m.. December 27, 2012.
