Joseph John Krivak - beloved husband, father, teacher and coach - passed away peacefully on December 25, 2012, surrounded by family at his home in Bowie, MD. Joe, the son of previously deceased John and Helen Krivak, was 77 years old. Originally from Central City, PA, Joe was born on March 20, 1935, and became an outstanding 3 sport athlete at Shade Township High School. Joe attended Syracuse University on a football scholarship, and earned 4 varsity letters while playing on the 1957 Syracuse Cotton Bowl Team. After earning a Bachelors of Arts Degree and then a Masters in Education from Syracuse, Joe started a high school teaching and coaching career in Weirton, WVa. During this time, he not only left an impact on the young men and women he taught in Social Studies and Mathematics, but his football teams won 2 Ohio Valley Conference Championships and 1 State Catholic School Championship, in an eight year period. Joe also met his wife, Jeanne, in Weirton. From there, Joe went onto a stellar career as an assistant college football coach, with coaching periods at Syracuse University, the University of Maryland, the United States Naval Academy, and the University of Virginia. Joe was also the Head Coach at Maryland for a 5 year period from 1987 to 1991. Over his 32 year college coaching career, Joe participated in 14 Bowl games, coached on 7 ACC Championship Teams, and helped develop 7 Quarterbacks who went on to playing careers in the NFL (4 which participated in the NFL Super Bowl). As a coach, he is most remembered for the positive impact he made on the lives of the young men he mentored, and how he helped foster their personal development as responsible citizens. But, his most important legacy will be the love and dedication he gave to his family and friends. In his spare time, Joe loved golfing, fishing, spending time with his wife and family, helping at his church, and doting over his two grandchildren. Joe is survived by his wife of 51 years, Jeanne, of Bowie, MD; brother, Thomas, and sisters, Kay & Ginny; sons Edward (of Newark, DE), John (of Tampa, FL) & Jeff (of Clarksville, MD); daughters-in-law Karen (Ed) and Lisa (Jeff), and grandchildren Troy and Mya (Jeff & Lisa). Family will receive friends at the family-owned BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 9pm. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Sacred Heart Church, 16501 Annapolis Rd., Bowie, MD on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 1pm. Interment, Sacred Heart Cemetery.
