Wallace S. Brammell, Jr.

Wallace Scott Brammell, Jr. passed from this life on May 3, 2012 at the age of 93. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones. He leaves his wife of 66 years, Pauline Ratliff Brammell, to the care of a large and loving family. These include children Linda (& Robert) Goldman, and Susan (& Daniel) Clark; grandchildren Laura Goldman (& Giovanni Gonzalez), Jennifer Goldman, Kimberly Goldman, Daniel (& Christa) Clark, David Clark, Kathleen (& Mike) Wilborn, and John Clark; and great-grandchildren Robert & Gabriella Goldman, Eva Clark and Jonas Wilborn. He was predeceased by his beloved son, David Glen Brammell. Wallace was born on January 25, 1919 in Frankfort, Kentucky, the only son of Anne Powers and Wallace Brammell, Sr. He received his B.S. Degree in Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics from Eastern Kentucky State Teacher's College in 1941. After graduation, he went to work for the Seagram's company producing the Salk vaccine as part of the war effort. He then served in the Navy. On September 27, 1945, Wallace married Glenna Pauline Ratliff. He earned his Master's Degree in Soil Science from Michigan State University. In 1956, he went to work for the Michigan Department of Agriculture in Lansing, Michigan. He then moved his family to Washington D.C. in 1965 where he began work for the Food and Drug Administration. Among his many contributions to the field was his method for determining the salt content in foods. He was honored with his induction as a Fellow of the American Association of Analytical Chemists. After his retirement, Wallace devoted himself to his grandchildren. He enjoyed writing and reading poetry, gardening and photography, music and travel. He lived in Bowie for the last 47 years. The visitation hours will be on Friday, May 18, 2012 from 10:30AM until 12:30 PM at which time the service will begin, at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 N.W. Crain Hwy., (Route 3 South) Bowie, MD 20715. Interment will follow at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery.
