Elwood L. Harmel, 79, life long resident of Mitchellville, MD, passed away on April 17, 2012. He was born on October 24, 1932 to Alexander and Cecelia Harmel. Elwood served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1951-1954. He was an independent truck driver for 35 years, then became an entrepreneur in the pallet and golf car business. He is survived by his wife, Ella, of Mitchellville; his sister, Charlotte (Lolly) Malone of Las Vegas, NV; daughters, Bonney Sullivan (Jerry) of Baltimore; Candy Harmel (Milo, III) of Crofton; and son, Elwood Scott Harmel, of Edgewater. He is also survived by a step-daughter, Donna Funk, of Edgewater; granddaughters, Dawn Arbour (Tim) of New London, CT; Crystal Rollins, of Davidsonville; and grandson, Nicholas Harmel, of Laurel; and step-granddaughters, Tiffany and Savannah Funk, of Edgewater. He was awaiting the arrival of his first great-grandchild due in October. Family will receive friends at BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Highway (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Sunday, April 22nd from 1-4 pm, where a funeral service will be held on Monday, April 23, 2012, at 11:00 am. Interment to follow at Fort Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Rd, Brentwood, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
