MARIE MUDD SUMMERS Granddaughter of Dr. Samuel Mudd Retired Federal Employee and Community Volunteer Marie Mudd Summers, of Waldorf, Washington DC, Cheverly and Mitchellville, MD, died January 24, 2012 at age 100. Beloved wife of the late George Mace Summers, Sr., mother of George Summers, Jr., Robert Summers, Allan Summers, Patrick Summers, and Anita Adee. Also survived by 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grand-children. Marie was the seventh of nine children, born and raised at the historic home of her grandfather, Dr. Samuel Mudd. She was Valedictorian of her high school class and a graduate of Strayer University. Her work history includes work with the Census Bureau, 14 years with the FBI where she worked in the office of J. Edgar Hoover, 10 years with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, and 17 years with the town of Cheverly MD. Her extensive volunteer activities include working for Pope John Paul II's visit to the US in 1979, the Dr. Samuel A. Mudd Society, and more than 30 years with the Prince George's Hospital Center where she accumulated more than 22,000 hours of service. Marie received the 2003 Strata Award for Volunteer Service from Prince George's Hospital Center and the Collington Life Care Community Volunteer of the Year award in 2003. On Friday, January 27 visitation from 10 a.m. until the Funeral Mass at 11a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church, 12010 Woodmore Road, Mitchellville MD. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, 8000 Woodyard Rd., Clinton MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Dr. Samuel A.
