Margot L. Andrews

June 17, 1969 — December 31, 2011

Margot Leoline Andrews also known as Lee was 42 years old. She lived in Bowie, Maryland. She died at Johns Hopkins Hospital on December 31, 2011. She was born on June 17, 1969 in Georgetown, Guyana to Josephine Patterson Smith and the late Gerald Foster. Margot was also blessed to have had a second mother, the late Nora E. Vigilance with whom she spent most of her childhood life. She was the sister of Colin Patterson, Max Smith, Gerald Patterson, Shane Patterson, Germaine Patterson and Karen Smith. She was preceded in death by her siblings Bernadette Battersfield, Peter Smith and Dexter Patterson. Margot attended St. Gabriel Primary and went on to Bishops High School, both in Georgetown, Guyana. She has built many childhood relationships that when they heard she was ill, dropped everything and was at her side. Some of her childhood friends include Tracy Vandeyar, Natalie James, Charmaine Smith, Wanda Hercules and June Boyce. Margot was the wife of Martin L. Andrews. They were married in April of 2003 and their union produced Marley Adrian Andrews and Marlon Shawn Andrews. Her husband said of his wife "she knew what she had to do and I knew what I had to do and we did it. I could not ask for a better mate. I am blessed that she chose me." She was very active in all of her children's school activities, so active that she found her love in teaching preschoolers. Margot's education includes two years at University of Maryland University College and a teaching certificate from Flagler Community College. Margot had three major careers. She started her first career in banking in 1989 at Manufacturer Hanover Bank in Brooklyn, New York as a teller and left in 1994 as a customer service officer. She moved to Maryland upon leaving banking and began a new career in Property Management. Margot started with Grady Management as a leasing agent and ascended to the level of property manager. She built several friendships over her tenure at Grady and also met her husband Martin. In 2005, Martin and Margot decided to relocate to Deland, Florida. Her Florida move helped Margot to find her new career in teaching. Margot wanted to ensure that her kids received the right educational foundation and after much research enrolled them in Lighthouse Christian Academy. She spent so much time volunteering at the school and participating in her children's school activities that she was offered a teaching position. This career was truly her calling and she was loved by her students and parents. Martin and Margot relocated back to Maryland to their current residence in Bowie. As a young lady in high school, Margot was a top sprinter; second only to the top female sprinter in her high school, who was also the national champion. Margot loved sports and enjoyed watching the games with her husband Martin. As a young girl she was an avid reader reading everything she could get her hands on, up to the time her illness started. She has always enjoyed hanging out with her girls at every stage of her life. Margot was very active in her church. She attended Suitland Road Church of Christ. As a member of Suitland she taught Sunday School, Children's Worship, and Vacation Bible School. She also helped plan Prayer Breakfasts. She attended several Ladies Retreats and Bible Classes. Margot was loved by all at her church. Her smile was infectious and many individuals leaned on her for words of comfort. She was blessed to have found three women (DaVitta Baker, Kimberly Boykin, and Pandora Crumpton) at church that were not only her sisters in Christ, but became as close as earthly sisters. They spent time studying the bible, traveling, celebrating holidays and birthdays together.
