Phillip J. Hannah

February 1, 1952 — December 11, 2011

Phillip J. Hannah of Bowie, Maryland died on Sunday, December 11, 2011. Phillip was the husband of Clara Wallace Hannah; loving father of Tanaga Hannah Rodgers and her husband Michael. He was also the dear brother of Joyce Wilson and Deborah Hannah. Phillip is survived by a host of loving nieces, aunts, great-nephew, cousins and friends. His parents, Rev. Phillip J. Hannah, Sr and Mrs. Beulah Hannah, and a son, John Jeff (JJ) Hannah, precede Phillip in death. Phillip was a 1971 graduate from Leon High School and earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 1975 at Florida A&M University. After graduating, Phil served as an officer in the United States Navy for 12 years, with a rank of Lieutenant and a top-secret clearance. In the Navy, Phillip wore many hats and was stationed throughout the US, Spain, England and Egypt. For several years, Phil was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Guilford with service to the male usher board and male chorus. In recent years he served as the President and Vice President of the male chorus. He was also recently elected as the President for the 2012 Hannah Family Reunion. Phil was known for his fried fish, attention to detail and crisply ironed shirts. If words could sum up Phillip's life, Christian, caring, witty and honorable readily spring to mind. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 19, 2011 at Zion Church. The service will be held at the First Baptist Church of Glenarden Ministry Center, 3600 Brightseat Road, Landover, MD, 20785. Viewing will be from 10 to 11am with a funeral service to follow at 11am. The interment will be private at Maryland Veteran Cemetery in Crownsville, MD. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Liver Foundation, 39 Broadway, Suite 2700 New York, New York 10006.
