Born February 2, 1926 in Bogot, Colombia, to Dario Echeverria and Margarita Burgos. Fernando attended Medical School in Colombia, South America. In 1959 he emigrated to the United States, arriving in Kansas City, Missouri. He brought with him his mother Margarita and Cousin Lilia Burgos. He moved to Cheverly, Maryland, interned and completed Residency at Prince Georges General Hospital, specializing in Obstetrics-Gynecology. Fernando married Eloise Willer June 27, 1964. They were blessed with two wonderful daughters: Nora, born March 27, 1966 and Colette, born October 20, 1968. Opened a Private Practice in Maryland, then joined the Practice of Drs. Haught and Greco. In later years, he worked for the District of Columbia, where he developed a program for Spanish-speaking patients. He retired from medicine in July 1998, devoting his time to his family and friends. Family was very important to Fernando; he was a father figure to more than his own children, and he was always there when his friends needed him. He loved being Granddaddy to his three young granddaughters Nicole, Jennifer and Allison. He was much loved and respected, and although we will miss him terribly, we carry his spirit with us. For those wishing to make charitable donations, my father's charities included the Shrine of the Immaculate Conception (www.nationalshrine.com) and the National Shrine of St. Jude (www.claretians.org)
