Patrick P. Garvin, Sr. "Pat", 74 of Bowie, MD passed away on October 11, 2011 in his home. Born in Macon, Ga., he received his bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Georgia Tech in 1960. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico during the Cuban Missile Crisis era. Mr. Garvin worked at the US Patent & Trademark Office for 35 years and was awarded the Department of Commerce Bronze Medal Award in 1978 for his work as a Supervisory Patent Examiner. Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Margaret McCrary Garvin, Bowie, MD; son Rick Garvin (Christine Johnbrier), his daughters Elizabeth Agnes and Anastasia Frances; son Christopher Garvin and his son Christopher Robert; daughter Maggie Kastle (Andy) and their sons Colin Andrew and Ryan Patrick; his five sisters Rita Thigpen (Luther), Mary Alice Bruce, Patricia Malkoff, Pauline O'Mahony (Tadg), Louise Peyton (Mack); his three brothers Mike Garvin (Carolyn), McKenna Garvin (Sandy), Minter Garvin (Linda), sister-in-law Mary Garvin; numerous nieces, nephews and their children; preceded in death by his parents Anastasia McKenna Garvin and John C. Garvin, Sr., brother, John C. Garvin, Jr. and brother-in-laws Jim Bruce and Pete Malkoff. Pat was always proud to explain that he and his wife Margaret shared the same birth date and year and they met in the first grade. Funeral services will be held at 10:00AM Monday October 17, 2011 at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 830 Poplar Street, Macon GA, 31201.
