George Francis Vanagas

George F. Vanagas (Age 79) After a two-year battle with lung cancer, George passed on Thursday, Oct. 6, 2011 at Tate Hospice House. Beloved husband of 43 years to Norma Jean Clark; devoted father to Michele (John) Bolly, Terry Dunn and Margy Spring; grandfather to Billy Giddings, Kirsten Spring, Tara Spring, Shelby Caudell, Johnnie Bolly, Makayla Bolly, Breanna Bolly and 4 great-grandchildren. Also survived by loving sister Patricia Buckler and 11 nieces and nephews. George was born on November 3, 1931 to Anthony and Violet Vanagas. He grew up in New York but later moved to Maryland in his teens. He proudly served in the Navy. The majority of his career he spent working for the Government Printing Office. In February 1968, he met Norma Jean Clark. They married in June 1968 and moved to Bowie. In 1974, Michele was born. George battled many illnesses during his later years. In October 2009, he was diagnosed with Lung Cancer. He fought long and hard but lost the battle on Thursday, October 6, 2011. George will always be remembered for his wit and sense of humor. He was a loving and supportive husband, a devoted father and a proud grandfather. Visitation will start at 12pm, with a celebration of life service at 1pm at BEALL FUNERAL HOME, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Tuesday, October 11, 2011. Reception will follow at Bowie Elks #2309. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
