Valetha Tyler

December 14, 1942 — October 2, 2011

Valetha (Val)Tyler was born on December 14, 1942, in Denmark, South Carolina. She was an identical twin affectionately named "Little Bit" and the 11th of 14 children born to the late Norris and Nomie (Hightower) Tyler. She received her Associate Degree, with a major in Accounting, from Voorhees Junior College in May 1962. She made her dedication to Jehovah God and symbolized it by water baptism on June 15, 1984. She fell asleep in death on October 2, 2011 after a prolonged illness. After raising her family in New York, she returned to her home in South Carolina to complete her secular career with the Postal Service. After retiring from the Postal Service in 2003, she remained in South Carolina until she relocated to Maryland in 2007 to be with her family. Val loved to share Bible truths with others no matter where she was. She viewed the hospital that she visited for various appointments as her personal territory. She would often return from her appointments excited about the many positive responses she received as she shared Bible truths with those she met there. She enjoyed the privilege of serving as a full-time preacher of the good news for 2 years and as an auxiliary pioneer many times. Her warm smile, kind words, and down-to-earth manner endeared her to many. She took great delight in entertaining guests in her home and was known for her smothered chicken in gravy, macaroni and cheese, and sweet potato pie. As a faithful publisher and servant of Jehovah, she, like Anna in the Bible, was never missing from her meetings at the Kingdom Hall. Val loved reading and talking about the Bible and the many wonderful promises of Jehovah. She often quoted her favorite scripture, Revelation 21:4, which reads:"And he [Jehovah God] will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." Those left to cherish precious memories of Val are her three children, Keith(Selena) Staley of Harlem , New York; Tamara Staley of Riverdale, Maryland; and Michael(Stacey)Staley of Riverdale, Maryland; one grandchild, Charlemagne Staley of Irvine, California and one great-grandchild, Harlem Brown of Irvine, California; three brothers, Norris(Patricia)Tyler Jr.; Leon(Christine)Tyler; and Luther(Barbara)Tyler;three sisters, Arnitha Butler, Betty Gaither; and Janie(Robert)Zellars; a host of spiritual sons and daughters, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, all of whom will cherish fond memories and dearly miss her.
