Jean Kyle Bauer

Jean Bauer Jean Kyle Bauer of Bowie died September 1, 2011 at the Crofton Convalescent Center. She was 87. Born in Xenia, Ohio, she attended public schools in Xenia and was awarded a United Presbyterian scholarship to Monmouth College in Illinois. She transferred to Ohio University and graduated with a BS in Education in 1946. She was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta sorority. Her teaching career started in Ohio, then in Louisiana before moving to Bowie in 1967 to join her husband, Clifford, after he was hired as an architect on the original Crofton project. She taught English at Samuel Ogle Jr. High School until her retirement in 1985. She was an avid supporter of Bowie youth activities which included the Sparklettes majorette corps, Boy Scout Troop 1009, and in particular the Bowie Starliners, of which both of her children were performing members. She was an active member of the Christian Community Presbyterian Church (CCPC) and enjoyed bridge, reading, making pressed flowers, and her work in support of CCPC. She derived the greatest joy from her four grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Clifford J. Bauer in 1983 and her brother William Kyle in 2001. Survivors include son and daughter-in-law Scott & Kathy Bauer of Severn, daughter and son-in-law Laurie Jo & Carmen Cardea of Bowie, grandchildren Thomas Cardea & wife Kelly, Kelly Bauer, Erin Cardea, and Scott Bauer. She will be remembered as a devoted friend, teacher, wife, mother, and Gran. Always giving- never asking. Visitation will take place at Beall Funeral Home on Rt. 3 in Bowie on Friday, Sept. 9 from 5-8PM. A Memorial service will be held at CCPC on Belair Drive on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 11AM. She will be buried with her husband at Cheltenham Veteran's Cemetery on Monday, Sept. 12 in a private family ceremony. Gift donations in her name may be made to the CCPC Memorial Fund.
