Gladys O. Laue

GLADYS ERNESTINE (OLSON) LAUE Age 93, passed away on August 28, 2011 at the South River Nursing Home in Edgewater MD. She was born on January 2, 1918 in Fairmont, Minnesota to the union of Iver and Alfrida (Carlson) Olson, who were both from Sweden. Gladys grew up in Lockport IL and attended schools there. She graduated from Lockport IL Township High School in 1936. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. On August 29, 1936 she was united in marriage to Earl William Laue. They made their home in Chicago Heights IL, until 1947 when they moved to Denver CO because of Earl's health concerns. After her husband passed away, Gladys moved to Pueblo West CO in 1996 to be closer to her son George, and in 2005 she moved to Maryland to live with her son Earl. Gladys worked at Sears in Denver for many years and retired after 25 years of service. She was a member of the Denver Washington Park Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, sister and daughter. She cherished her family and friends, and was known for her hospitality and wonderful cooking and baking. Gladys and her husband enjoyed traveling and they made trips to Europe, Alaska, Mexico and all over the United States. Gladys is survived by her two sons: George and his wife, Elaine of Pueblo West CO, and Earl and his wife Virginia of Upper Marlboro MD; three grandchildren: Cheryl (Bradley) Bean, Kim (James) Braun, and Erin (Adam) Novak; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters-in-law, Grace Rusin and Ruth Porter of Illinois; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband Earl in 1993, her parents Iver and Alfrida Olson, her five sisters (Ingabor, Florence, Victoria, Bernice and Mabel); and her three brothers (Iver, Albert and Lester). Cremation has taken place and there will be no service at this time. A memory service and celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
