Mary Jane Golding

January 21, 1933 — August 12, 2011

Mary Jane "Jeanie" Golding Born January 21, 1933 in Scotland Died on Friday, August 12, 2011 in Brooklyn, MD Jeanie Golding passed away from complications of ovarian cancer on August 12th, 2011. Jeanie was born in Scotland, the youngest of 5 children of Catherine Glass. Throughout her childhood, Jeanie traveled with her mother who worked at several hotels as a cook and then owned a boarding house in Glasgow, Scotland. She went to London to work as a salesgirl in her early 20's. There she met her future husband, Bill Golding who was stationed there in the United States Air Force. 3 weeks later they were engaged. They married on December 27th, 1954. Jeanie immigrated to the United States with her husband in 1956. They were stationed at K.I. Sawyer, Air Force Base located on Michigan's Upper Peninsula and later at Cheyenne Mountain, outside Colorado Springs, CO. Upon her husband leaving the Air Force, they moved to Bowie, MD. They raised two children, Mike and Linda. After the passing of her husband, Bill, in 1976, Jeanie became a US Citizen. She earned her GED, 3 Associate Degrees from Prince Georges Community College (PGCC) and a Bachelor of Arts from University of Maryland. Her primary studies were in Medical Records and Art. Her final oil painting at PGCC won 3rd place for Oils in the college competition. She always had a desire to be a nurse. But, instead, she pursued a career as a Medical Records Technician. She felt that starting so late as a nurse was not practical. Eventually, she retired from Kaiser Permanente at the age of 60. She spent much of her free time painting using acrylics, watercolor and oils at the O'Malley Senior Center in Odenton, MD. More recently, she had been studying writing techniques online. She was an avid computer user who read all of the documentation prior to installation of software. She enjoyed using her computers to compose artwork and stories. She was predeceased by her husband, William Curtis "Bill" Golding and is survived by a son, William "Mike" Golding and his wife, Heidi; a daughter, Linda Pattison and her husband, Jeff; and 2 grandchildren, William and John Golding. Family will receive friends at the family-owned Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. (Rte. 3 South), Bowie, MD on Saturday, August 27, 2011 from 1pm until the Memorial Service at 2pm. Interment private. If desired, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311.
