Rosemary Johnston

Rosemary Cecelia (McCullen) Johnston passed away at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home on July 29, 2011. Rosemary was born in Toledo, OH. After graduating from College two years early, she started her career teaching in a catholic school. She then became an Officer in the Navy during WWII. She was stationed at the Navy Yard in Washington, DC. During her time is Washington, she met and married Walter Johnston. She raised her family, was a published author of mysteries and became a Social Studies teacher in the Prince George's County School System. Upon retirement, she and Walter moved to Florida, where she enjoyed an active life and travelled extensively. She moved to Las Vegas and lived with her daughter Kay McCullen. While in Las Vegas, she was an active member of the Pinellas County Senior Center and continued to live an active life. In 2005, she moved back to Maryland and lived with her son Robert and his family in Crofton, MD. She attended church regularly at St Elizabeth Ann Seton. Rosemary is predeceased by her husband, Walter Johnston and her daughter Kay McCullen. She is survived by her brother, Father John McMullen of Deerfield Beach, Florida; Son - John Johnston of Redondo Beach, California; Daughter - Anne Johnston of Boston, Massachusetts; Son - Robert Johnston, his wife Cynthia Johnston, and Grandsons - Patrick and Andrew Johnston of Crofton, MD. A visitation will be held at Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Hwy. Bowie MD on August 17th from 6 to 8 PM. A military memorial service will be held of August 19th, 2011 at the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery at 1:45 PM, followed by a reception. Memorial contributions can be made the Friends of the Maryland Library for the Blind and Physically Handicapped at Friends of MSLBPH, 672 Old Mill Road, #128, Millersville, MD 21108-1363. Rosemary had macular degeneration and got years of enjoyment listening to books and weekly readings of Newsweek.
