David Francis Gormley, 81 a 44 year resident of Bowie, died April 27, 2011. He was born January 30, 1930 in Brooklyn, New York, the youngest of 5 to Wilhemena and Francis. He honorably served in the U.S. Army as a heavy equipment mechanic and in the U.S. Navy as a Fire Control Technician during the Korean Conflict. After his military service, David worked as a civil servant most recently for the U.S. Department of the Navy, NAVSEA. He is on the registry of the U.S. Navy Memorial in Washington, DC and was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 2057. After retirement David volunteered at the Bowie Public Library and drove a bus for the City of Bowie. David had a penchant for gardening, cooking and was fond of the outdoors and wildlife, specifically the wild birds in his back yard which he fed and watered daily. He was an adept handyman and had a reputation of If he can t fix it, it ain t broke . David is survived by his bride of 59 years, Jean Mary (Smith); his dog Sugar; one daughter: Jean (Steve) Dellinger of Manassas Park, VA; four sons: Henry (Marybeth) Gormley of Crofton, MD, Francis Gormley of Bowie, MD, David (Jenny) of Chesapeake Beach, MD and Mark (Jennifer) of Gambrills, MD; eight grandchildren: Kristy, Erica, Melanie, Shannon, Ryan, David, Cameron and Colleen; one great grandchild: Kaleb; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by three sisters: Wilhemena, Elizabeth, and Viola and his brother John. Visitation and prayer services will be held Friday May 6, 2011 from noon to 2 p.m. at Beall Funeral Home in Bowie, MD. A reception will be held afterwards at Moni s Place in Crofton, Md.
