Jay Lee Ingle

September 24, 1926 — March 4, 2011

Jay L. Ingle ("J-Bird") passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011 at the home of Michelle and Charles Grim (his grandson) of natural causes. He was born in the house that his father built in Asheville, North Carolina on September 24, 1926 to Jay L. Ingle, Sr. and Callie Smart Ingle. Jay was preceded in death by 2 brothers, Jimmie and Arthur, and 3 sisters, Beatty, Nancy, and Margaret. After receiving his high school diploma in Asheville, Jay served in the U.S. Navy for four years, receiving an honorable discharge. After his discharge, Jay settled in Maryland, living in Rockville, Edgewater, Bowie, Crofton, and finally settling in Mechanicsville. During his many years in Maryland, Jay was employed by Wonder Bread, Winnie's Chuck Wagon Services, and retired as a salesman for Montgomery Wards. Jay had three former wives, Betty Sullivan (deceased), Gloria Emogene Ingle (deceased), and Eileen Burress. His final loving companion was Dotty Stout. Jay was the father of James Ingle (deceased), Linda Stahl of Hanover, PA, Michael Ingle of Annapolis, MD, and David Ingle of Pompano Beach, FL. Jay was also the stepfather of Wanda Sofield of Mechanicsville, MD, Donna McNichol of Odenton, MD, and Larry Sullivan of Nashville, TN. Jay is also survived by over 30 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Jay will be laid to rest with his former loving wife, Gloria Emogene Ingle at Cheltenham Veteran's Cemetery. "J-Bird" had a long and tough life for many years, but in the end, he pulled through and became a better man, making others happy that they had met him. "J-Bird" loved the Washington Redskins, and was an avid storyteller. He loved to tell stories of his teenage days in North Carolina. The family would like to thank Michelle and Charles Grim for taking such good care of our J-Bird and enabling him to have pride, dignity, and peace, as he crossed his final finish line.
