William P. Olden

William P. Olden, 75 Bill passed away peacefully at Doctor's Hospital on Friday, February 18, 2011. Born January 1, 1936 in Brooklyn, NY, Bill is survived by Betsy, his loving wife of 52 years; his beloved children, Susan, Bill (Janet), Scott (Tina) and Nancy (Lawrence); and his dear grandchildren, Victoria, Lindsey, Bill and Shannon. Bill earned a B.S. degree in applied Physics, graduating from Hofstra University (NY) in 1958. At the very beginning of the Space Program, Bill and his family moved to Maryland, where he spent most of his career at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, retiring in 1996. Bill had many interests, the first being his love of skiing. He became a Ski Patrolman with the Mideastern Division for 30 years. He was also a Life Member of the Bowie Volunteer Fire Department, serving in several capacities. He also loved to sail on the Chesapeake Bay. Bill had a Pilot license and loved to take his family flying. Additionally, he refereed Soccer, Football and Lacrosse and was also an Football Fan of both the Redskins and Ravens and of Pittsburgh. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, March 5 at the Glenn Dale Fire Dept., 11900 Glenn Dale Blvd., Glenn Dale, MD from 1 to 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Bowie Fire Department, 3262 Superior Lane, PMB 270, Bowie, MD 20715 or to the SPCA or Bowie CLAW.
