Marjorie Butler passed away peacefully Sunday evening, October 31, 2010. "Margie" was 92 years old and had been a resident of Summerville at Woodward Estate, Bowie, MD for nearly two years. She was born September 18, 1918, in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of Elsie and Patrick Halley. Margie and her younger sister, Kathy, had a wonderful childhood in Chicago. In the Windy City on New Years Eve of 1941, Margie met John Butler of Easton, Md, a young Army Air Corps pilot. They married on January 16, 1943. Major John Earl Butler was a career officer in the United States Air Force. He and Margie brought five children into the world, Sheila, Marcy, John, Brian and Patricia. John Earl's career took Margie and their children to several locations within the United States, as well to Tachikawa, Japan and Oahu, Hawaii. After Major Butler's retirement they enjoyed many years of boating along the coast of Portsmouth, N. H. and, later, the Chesapeake Bay, MD, They also enjoyed many years of cross-country trips by motor home to visit family and friends. Margie remained a city girl at heart, and yet, as a young wife, she enjoyed long visits to the Eastern Shore Maryland farm of her husband's family. Throughout her life she particularly loved all the action, culture and entertainment that a city offers. She enjoyed museum exhibitions, movies and live theater, dance and song performances. Dining out was a favorite past time. She had a wonderful sense of adventure and was always curious about the people, places and culture of any new spot on the map. During the years she was widowed, she resided in Laguna Hills, California. It was there that she experienced a new range of activities such as line dancing, club activities and enjoying the beach community during visits from her children and grandchildren.
