Myrna Yowan Gatlin

Myrna Gatlin was born November 15, 1938 in West Newton, Pennsylvania to John and Myrna Yowan. Between her junior and senior year of high school, her family moved to Vicksburg, Mississippi. After graduating high school, she returned to western Pennsylvania and completed the nursing program at the University of Pittsburgh. During her time in nursing school she met Jim Gatlin. Jim and Myrna were married January 2, 1959. In 1962, Jim and Myrna Gatlin moved to the Washington D.C. area and settled in Bowie, MD. In 1970, she gave birth to her son Andrew. During her career she worked for Holy Cross Hospital, the University of Maryland, Goddard Space Flight Center and the Epilepsy Foundation of America. Myrna Gatlin also actively volunteered with organizations such as Meals on Wheels and the London Town Foundation (historical preservation society). In recent years, her passion has been spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, James "Jim" Gatlin of Bowie; son, Andrew Gatlin (Pattie) of Brentwood, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Ian and Paige Gatlin of Brentwood, Tenn.; parents, John and Myrna Yowan of Shelby Twp, Mich.; brother, William Yowan (Marie) of Shelby Twp, Mich.; sister, Diane Cassatly of Clifton, N.J.; and numerous nieces and nephews. A Memorial Gathering will be held from 3:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, September 30 at the family-owned Beall Funeral Home, 6512 NW Crain Highway (Route 3 South), Bowie. Interment private. If desired, contributions may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake, 445 Defense Highway, Annapolis, MD 21401.
